Mini Cooper S R53 Intercooler Project

I received a phone call from a customer saying his car couldn't be mapped due to the ACT's being far too high. The tuning company (MADevelopments) explained to the customer the intercooler wasn't working efficiently and effectively enough and couldn't continue with the mapping due to excessive pinking. The owner then approached me to discuss his requirements. The first thing I noticed was the diameter of the pipe work was too small for the boost being used - 25psi, and the intercooler in my opinion was way too small for this state of tune!

I rang Mark Shead at MADevelopments the following day to discuss the requirements of this car, and they agreed the pipe diameter was too small. Too smaller pipe work can cause 'choking' which cause's friction & heat! so bigger pipe work with mandrel bends was used. With the new set up the end result was a massive reduction in air temps from 70 degrees C to 35 degrees C enabling the mapping to be completed.
